Shoplifting Suspect Charged With Resisting Officer

FOUR OAKS – A Johnston County man is accused of pushing a deputy sheriff and attempting to flee on foot while being placed under arrest for shoplifting.

On December 31 around 1:43pm, a deputy was dispatched to a shoplifting call at Barefoot’s Country Store, at 3295 US 701 South. A person had reportedly left the store without paying for cigars valued at $28.32.

The deputy reviewed video security footage and was able to identify the suspect as Darius Zadek Lewis of the 2200 block of Joyner Bridge Road, Four Oaks.

The officer went to the address and after speaking with Lewis told the 22 year-old man he was under arrest.

Lewis allegedly pushed the officer and began to flee on foot, however he tripped and fell, allowing the deputy to place him in handcuffs.

Lewis was charged with misdemeanor larceny and resisting a public officer. He was released on a $2,000 secured bond.
