Shoplifting Turns Into Armed Robbery

A suspect in a shoplifting case could face armed robbery charges.  Around 2:45pm Saturday, Smithfield Police responded to a call at the Casual Male Outlet store on Outlet Center Drive.

Police said a suspect entered the business and grabbed several shirts and exited the business without paying. When the individual was confronted by store employees in the parking lot, the suspect pulled a knife on the individuals.  The suspect then jumped into a dark color vehicle believed to be a GMC Envoy and sped away.

The shirts were valued at $520.

Captain R. Sheppard said the suspect was as a unknown age black male with numerous moles on his cheeks and near his eyes.

Police are still investigating the incident.  No injuries were reported.
