Shots Fired During Home Invasion

A homeowner fired shots at a suspect during an attempted home invasion this morning (Thursday) in Benson.

Around 10:05am, a male suspect attempted to kick in the rear door to a residence on Coats Circle off Honeycutt Street in the Benson city limits.

A person inside the home reportedly fired shots at the burglar.  The suspect fled on foot. There was no evidence suggesting the suspect was hit by the gunfire.

Benson Police with the assistance of the NC Highway Patrol and Johnston County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter around the area and searched for the suspect for several hours before calling off the manhunt.

A Highway Patrol helicopter and sheriff’s K-9 was also used during the search.

Benson Police are continuing their investigation.

I wish all law abiding homeowners had a gun and did the same. Maybe these worthless people would decide working for a living was safer!
