SMITHFIELD – Police are investigating a shooting that injured a Smithfield man. It happened around 1:32am Sunday, May 12.
Shelton Lee Covington was inside his apartment on Kay Drive when someone fire multiple shots into the dwelling. Covington was struck in the leg. He was transported to WakeMed where he was treated and released. There were three juveniles inside the apartment but they were not injured. Police are working to identify the suspect or suspects.
