Johnston County Register of Deeds Craig Olive says the 2016 Shred Event was a big success. A total of 16,000 pounds of paper was shredded last Saturday. Due to the overwhelming popularize of the free annual event, a second shredder truck was added this year.
The event was held this year in the parking lot of the Edwards IGA in Smithfield. Olive says identity theft is a big problem. During the event, residents were able to safely dispose of unwanted receipts, credit card information, bank statements, and other sensitive information they wanted to properly discard.
“If I helped to prevent identity theft, it was well worth the while to provide this to the public,” Olive said.
WMPM Radio AM-1270, WTSB Radio AM-1090, Edwards IGA, Hinson’s Printing and Interstate Outdoor helped sponsor the 2016 Shred Event.
