BENSON – Two sisters who hold states titles, 11 year-old Madelyn Herring, Junior Miss North Carolina and 6 year-old Saylor-Claire Herring, Tiny Miss North Carolina spent the month of October collecting sugar free candy and Halloween cards.
Madelyn and Saylor-Claire personally designed 110 cards to give to each resident at Liberty Commons in Benson. On October 31st, they went to the nursing home, and with the help of staff, delivered a bag of candy for each resident along with a homemade card.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions Madelyn and Saylor-Claire went to the window of every room and held up signs. Some of the signs read: Happy Halloween, We love you, We brought you candy and You are our sunshine.
It was a very Halloween for both the residents and for the sister. Ericka Herring said her daughters are already planning another community service project to hopefully involve the nursing home once again.
Madelyn and Saylor-Claire are the children of Ericka and Corby Herring of Benson.
