SMITHFIELD – A small plane crashed Friday afternoon near the Johnston County Airport. The crash was reported at approximately 4:20pm in the area of Ogburn Road and Jethro Circle, well off the roadway.
Two people in the airplane were transported to the hospital. Both were conscious when they left the scene but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been notified and will be investigating the cause of the crash.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Johnston County EMS, Johnston County Emergency Management, Smithfield Fire Department, Selma Fire Department, and Four Oaks Fire Department were among the emergency agencies that responded.
