Smithfield Eagle Scout Recognized

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held on September 23rd at the First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield for Silas Gray McClure. During his ceremony, Silas was also presented the Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award on behalf of the JoCo Marines.

Silas is a Patrol Leader of Boy Scout Troop 95 of Smithfield and a member of the Order of the Arrow, the Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America. He is also a senior at Neuse Charter High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society and the Vice President of the NC Student Governor’s Association. When he graduates in 2018, Silas plans to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Silas is also a Citizen of the 78th Tar Heel Boys State American Legion.

For his Eagle Scout project, Silas renovated a vandalized gazebo on the Smithfield Greenway by building new benches around the gazebo and replacing the brick surroundings, removing overgrown weeds and installing new shrubs to bring new life to the once forgotten public resting area.
