A Johnston County Sheriff’s Office K-9 helped locate a man wanted following a high speed chase Friday afternoon. It started just after 5:00pmon Brogden Road east of Smithfield.
A deputy sheriff attempted to stop the driver of a red Volvo for speeding 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. The car failed to stop for the officers blue light and siren. The chase continued for about a mile until the driver turned onto a dirt path and fled on foot near the suspects home.
A sheriff’s K-9 helped track the suspect, 27 year-old Jonathan Blake Powell of the 5300 block of Brogden Road.
Powell was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving while impaired, speeding and reckless driving. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
