Smithfield Man Charged With Attempted Robbery Of Convenience Store

A Smithfield man has been arrested after police said he tried to rob a West Smithfield convenience store.

Around 7:20pm Wednesday, Smithfield Police said the suspect the suspect entered the GT Mart, at the corner of West Market Street and Wilson’s Mills Road, and attempted to rob the clerk.  Police Captain Ryan Sheppard said the suspect, 31 year-old Christopher Steven Dunn of the 300 block of Powell Street, was not successful in obtaining any money and left walking on foot.

Police officers located Dunn about two block away and took him into custody. Sheppard said an unloaded pistol was found in his pocket.

Dunn was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.  As of Friday, Dunn was still in the Johnston County Jail where he was being held under a $25,000 bond.
