Smithfield Police Create ‘No Parking Zone’ On Towne Centre Place

At the request of Police Chief Keith Powell, the Smithfield Town Council has approved creating a No Parking Zone on Towne Centre Place.  The street is located off East Market Street and runs between Golden Corral and Sheetz.

Chief Powell said the Town has taken over the roadway and it has seen an increase in semi trucks and other large vehicles on the dead end street. Also numerous trucks park on the street for an extended period of time.

“The issue arose from on-the-street parking which is allowed on Equity Drive, which caused significant damage to that street,” Chief Powell told JoCoReport. “The town is trying to be proactive in this area and stop this before the hotel is built near Golden Corral and traffic increases in that area.”

Powell hopes the new no parking zone will prevent heavy trucks from blocking Towne Centre Place and causing damage to the pavement.

Enforcement will begin as soon as the no parking signs are installed. The fine is $10 per violation.
