Smithfield Police Investigating Death Of 42-Year-Old Woman

SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield Police Department is investigating the sudden death of a 42-year-old woman at a residence on Wilson’s Mills Road.

Officers and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the home at approximately 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, after receiving a report of an unresponsive person.

According to police, the woman had just stepped out of the shower when she collapsed. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

The investigation remains ongoing pending the results of the medical examiner’s report.
