SMITHFIELD – Smithfield-Selma High School (SSS) celebrated Homecoming for the 2023-2024 school year in style. The theme was Home Sweet Homecoming.
Every day during the week of October 2nd, a special event was held to help drum up school spirit. For example, Wednesday was Class Colors Day, and Thursday was Twin Day. Each day there were plenty of ways for students to connect and make memorable experiences. On Friday, October 6, the school celebrated the varsity football team as well as all Spartan athletes with an exciting pep rally.
SSS also brought back the Homecoming parade, a tradition that the school has not practiced in decades. Crowds gathered together on the sidewalks of Durwood Stephenson Parkway to watch the student-decorated floats. Each float represented a different part of SSS such as AVID, JoCo Teach, Unified, and the SSS Varsity Football Team. This parade empowered SSS to showcase the many different opportunities available for students.
SSS Principal Crystal Gregory said, “It is my hope that core memories were created and that each member of our community will say that something they did during homecoming was a memory that they will hold on to forever.”
Hats off to the SPARTAN REGIMENT Band that performed during the parade. They were terrific and also performed and played at homecoming game!
