Smithfield Town Board Approves Service Contracts

The Smithfield Town Council voted unanimously to approve several service contracts during their July meeting.

A ground maintenance service contract with Lane Lawn Care of Smithfield was among those approved.  The agreement is renewable for two years on an annual basis. Lane Lawn Care was the low bidder at $69,000.  Chem Pro of Johnston County had submitted a bid of $151,200.

The contract includes cutting the NC DOT right of way areas, the water plant, I-95 exits and town parks, mulching, manual weeding, pruning shrubbery, applying insecticides and herbicides.  Ten bid packets were sent out to area contractors but proposals were only received from the two companies.

In a separate action item, the council approved a $33,672 contract bid with Coverall for 12 months of janitorial services at the Town Hall, Operations Center, Public Works, and Police Department.  Ace Cleaning had bid $50,484 and Pro Cleaning had submitted a proposal of $204,000.

The board also approved a $6,684 bid with Heat Transfer Solutions for general HVAC service and maintenance for 12 months at nine town facilities including the town hall, operations center, water plant, two fire stations and the police department.   Hines Heating & AC bid $7,152, Dail Mechanical $7,200, and Central Carolina Air Conditioning $43,443.
