The Smithfield Town Council has postponed their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. The council was scheduled to meet on Tuesday, May 5th but has postponed the meeting until Monday, May 18th at 7:00pm.
Town Manager Mike Scott recommended the Council alter its meeting schedule in hopes the current state restrictions might be partially lifted by May 18th. Also, there are three special use permits pending before the Council and they require quasi-judicial hearings.
“These hearings cannot be held remotely but have to be in person. By moving the meeting back a little we fall outside the new May 8th, stay at home order sunset date and put ourselves in at least a possibility of holding a more normal council meeting,” Mr. Scott said in an email.
