Smithfield Woman Charged With Insurance Fraud

SMITHFIELD – The NC Department of Insurance has charged a Smithfield woman with insurance fraud. Cynthia Kay Cook, 43, of S. Second Street, was arrested January 9 for felony insurance fraud.

According to court documents, Ms. Cook submitted a tow bill for “Johnston County Sheriff’s Towing” in an attempt to receive an insurance payment for tow reimbursement of $750 from Amica Mutual Insurance Company.

The warrant states “Johnston County Sheriff’s Towing” does not exist and the document she allegedly submitted was fraudulent.

Cook was given a $10,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.
