Social Service Employees Raised $1,240 For Special Olympics

Once again this year, the Johnston County Department of Social Services participated in the Johnston County Special Olympics Event held last Friday at Smithfield Selma High School. With the help of fundraisers and contributions from social services employees, the Johnston County Health Department, Johnston County Finance Office and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, they were able to donate $1,240.

“I am so grateful that we as an Agency are able to participate in this event each year,” according Jennifer Gaddis, DSS Project Coordinator.  “There are no words to describe the feeling you get as you see the accomplishments of these precious children.  The glow on their faces is something you just have to experience for yourself.”

Along with volunteers from DSS, employees from the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office rounded out the team.  Volunteers on the DSS team from left to right were: Erica Vinson, Madison Gaddis, Sheriff’s Captain Kelly Garner, Emily Sorrell, Doug Sorrell, Angel Powell, Angie Benson, Sheriff’s Captain Chris Strickland, Raimondi Raynor, Jennifer Gaddis, Ben Mbonu, Raquel Barbour and Madonna McLaurin (not pictured).
