BENSON – A Johnston County man was fatally stabbed while attacking a woman Tuesday afternoon. The Johnston County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing details of the incident to determine if the victim’s teenage son will face any charges.
Around 1:30pm, deputies with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1834 Mamie Road outside of Benson.
After arriving on the scene, officers determined Timothy Paul Ledford Jr. was involved in a physical domestic altercation with a woman. During the altercation her 16 year-old son intervened and stabbed Ledford.
Ledford was in an ambulance being rushed to the hospital when he died.
Authorities are still actively working on the case. No additional details were released by investigators.
Ledford has an extensive criminal history including convictions for manufacturing methamphetamines, child abuse, felony drug possession and forgery.
On December 1, 2007, Ledford was arrested after he met an undercover narcotics agent with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office thinking he was meeting a meth user and was going to cook methamphetamines. Ledford was also charged in a 2007 investigation called Operation Pill Crusher, a roundup of suspects who shopped pharmacies to purchase large quantities of pseudoephedrine to manufacture meth.
