Johnston County Schools will use funding from the 2018 School Bond Referendum to replace the visitors bleachers on the football field at South Johnston High School.
Gates Concrete & Construction, Inc. was the low bidder on the project at $227,685. They beat out other bids from Sohn, Inc. of $259,016 and Muter Construction $297,792 for the project.
Johnston County Schools Chief of Staff Dolores Gill told members of the school board the visitor side bleachers are in need of replacement. A structural engineer was consulted to evaluate the condition of the bleachers and they were deemed not structurally sound for use.
Gill said the cost to repair the bleachers exceeded the cost of new bleachers. Design will be completed in house.
The new bleachers are expected to be completed before the start of the 2019-2020 school year this August.
