The 2017 Tarheel League Midget Division consisting of players from southern Johnston County won the state champion tournament held last weekend.
The team consisted of members selected from regular season recreational league teams from the Benson, Meadow, and Four Oaks communities.
The 10 and under team won the Division Tournament Championship played at Smithfield Community Park July 6-11th with a 3-0 record. Other teams involved in the Division Tournament included Cleveland, North Johnston and Central Johnston.
The South Johnston Tar Heels traveled to Williamston for the State Tournament Championship played July 27-30th. They defeated the Sandhills 12 to 6 in the opening game and toppled Williamston 15 to 7 in the second game. They blanked Perquimans County 5-0 to advance to the championship game. The local team won the championship with a 10-9 victory over the Sandhills. Teams involved in the State Tournament included Williamston, Caldwell County, Sandhills, East Chatham, Wendell, Perquimans County and Hickory.
