SMITHFIELD – Two South Smithfield intersections have been repaired. Public Works Director Lawrence Davis received approval from the Town Council to hire J.P. Edwards, Inc. of Smithfield to perform the repairs. The company was the low bidder of $8,832 per intersection, or $17,664 total cost.

Mr. Davis said the intersections of South Second and Stevens Street, and South First Street and Stevens Street, had damaged valley gutters causing draining problems through the middle of each intersection. The gutters cracked allowing water to pass under the remaining asphalt. The intersections were also unlevel, he said.

The contractor demolished and removed the old gutters, milled each side of the street, and patched the asphalt to tie into the new valley gutters, Mr. Davis said.

Town Manager Mike Scott said Powell Bill Funds covered the cost of the repairs.
