A Brunswick County woman was arrested for speeding and driving while impaired Saturday night on Highway 701 about three miles south of Four Oaks.
A Johnston County SAFE Team deputy was on routine patrol around 11:25pm when he noticed a car quickly approaching in his rear view mirror. The officer used his radar to clock the vehicle traveling 65 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and upon approaching the car detected an odor of alcohol coming from the driver, 53 year-old Julia Denise Sullivan of Supply, NC. Sullivan reportedly failed a field sobriety test. She later registered 0.16 on the Breathalyzer, double the legal limit of 0.08 in North Carolina.
Sullivan was transported to the Johnston County Jail and charged with speeding, driving while impaired and a registration violation. She was released on a $2,500 bond.
