A speeding driver collided with a fuel tanker Saturday morning on Interstate 95 in Johnston County. The 10:17am wreck happened in the southbound lanes of the interstate between Selma and Smithfield.
The State Highway Patrol said Hugo Rodelbi De Leon Velasquez, 37, of Saint Paul, NC was traveling southbound in a 2006 Pontiac passenger car when he lost control, drove off I-95 to the left, struck the guardrail, then came back onto the road striking the side of a southbound 2019 Mack fuel tanker operated by Donald Nigel Lendon, 42, of Leland, NC.
Troopers said Velasquez was traveling at 75mph in a 65mph zone prior to the collision. He was cited by Trooper D.T. Sharpe for reckless driving and driving without a license.
No injuries were reported.
