SSS Graduate Performs In Drum Corps International Championships

Jason Daniel Hallam, a 2016 graduate at Smithfield Selma High, performed in the Drum Corps International (DCI) International Championships in Indianaopolis, Indiana on Saturday night with the Bluecoats. They were awarded the Bronze Medal.

Over 2000 musicians auditioned for 150 spots with the Bluecoats earlier this year. They travel over 10,000 miles this summer competing in shows across the United States.

40 corps began the competition in Indianapolis on Thursday. Friday the top 25 advanced to semi finals, and Saturday the top 12 competed in front of more than 20,000 people.

Bluecoats finished 3rd and were awarded a Bronze.

Jason is a junior at Western Carolina University where he studies Music Education. He is a student leader in college band and will be playing in the 2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. He was also part of SSS Spartans Regiment Band when they won the National Championship. He is the 2016 recipient of SECU’s People Helping People Scholarship.

Jason is the son of Jerry and Stacie Goodloe of Smithfield. He has a sister, Tamara Critter of Suffolk, VA. His grandparents are Leslie and Walter Desenburg of Florida.
