Smithfield-Selma High School student Camryn Barefoot has been accepted to serve as a Senate Page for the North Carolina General Assembly. Barefoot’s application was endorsed by Senator Jim Burgin who will also serve as her sponsor.
As a Senate Page, Barefoot will be attending daily Senate sessions held in the Senate Chamber. Pages also perform a wide variety of tasks such as relaying messages, answering phones, photocopying documents, and assisting in committee meetings. Barefoot will be performing these duties May 13-16, 2019.
Barefoot is excited at the opportunity to serve as a Senate Page. She has a strong interest in pursuing a government career that requires strong leadership and communication skills.
“I look forward to this exciting opportunity within our state government. I can’t wait to share my experience within my school and community and encourage this program to others in high school. This is really an amazing opportunity,” Ms. Barefoot said.
SSS Principal David Allen added, “Our school greatly supports the North Carolina General Assembly providing a program like this for students to learn and gain a better understanding of government. This program facilitates civic consciousness at its highest level and promotes a greater appreciation for our local municipalities, counties, and state government.”
