SSS Swim Team Places In State Championship

SMITHFIELD – Members of the Smithfield Selma High School Swim Team placed in the NCHSAA 3-A State Championships in Cary, on February 7. Team members and Coach Aaron Bentley were recognized by the Smithfield Town Council for their accomplishments during the February 19 board meeting.

The team consists of swimmers Frankie DiGiovannia, Anya Muminovic, Payton Millard, and Natalie Irish.

Frankie is the new state champion in the 500 free style and finished second in the 200 free style. Anya finished third in the 100 yard breast stroke.

The team finished second in the 400 yard free style and third in the 200 yard free style competition.

Payton picked up a seventh place finish in the 200 free style and eighth in the 100 free style.

Anya came in 10th place in the 200 individual medley.

The SSS swim team finished fourth overall in the state championship competition.
