State Troopers Charge 19 Year-Old With DWI After Crash

HARNETT COUNTY – A 19-year-old Benson man was arrested on driving while impaired charges following a single-vehicle crash Friday night in Harnett County.

Erwin Fire Rescue was dispatched at 10:44 p.m. to a reported vehicle crash in the 4800 block of N.C. Highway 217. First responders found a car off the roadway in the woods, resting on its side.

The driver had already exited the vehicle and was walking around when responders arrived. No injuries were reported.

The driver was identified as Marcos Gomez Alvarez of Benson. He was arrested at the scene. He later registered a 0.13 on a breathalyzer test, nearly double the state’s legal limit of 0.08, according to online court records.

Alvarez was charged with driving while impaired, driving after consuming alcohol under the age of 21, reckless driving to endanger, and driving without an operator’s license.

He was placed under a $4,000 secured bond.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
