Steven Babel Earns Highest Award In Scouting

On January 5th an Eagle Scout Ceremony was held for Eagle Scout Steven James Babel from Boy Scout Troop 64 of Garner. The Ceremony took place at Mount Zion United Methodist Church near Garner.

Steven is the son to Becky Babel of Angier. He is a 2019 graduate of West Johnston High School near Benson.

Steven received his Nurse Aid I Training in December 2018 and is currently registered with the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) NC Nurse Aide I Registry. Steven competed in the 2018-2019 Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) District Leadership Conference and received second place out of more than 100 students. He is currently attending Campbell University as a Biology Pre-Med major. He would like to be an Anesthesiologist.

Steven is currently a unit leader reserve with Troop 64. He served as Troop Guide when eleven young boys crossed over to Boy Scouts from Cub Scouts. Typically, only three or four boys cross over at a time. He also served as the Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, where he continued to mentor the young Scouts.

Steven attended Camp Tuscarora each summer from 2012 to 2017. He joined the ranks of summer camp staff in 2018 and 2019.

For his Eagle Scout project, Steven created a nature trail at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. He also built several informational wood stakes to mark trees along the trail.

During his Eagle Scout Court of Honor, Steven was presented with an Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award from Commandant Bill Dunn (left) and Sr. Vice Commandant Bob Long (right) on behalf of the Johnston County Marine Corps League Carry-On Detachment 1236.
