After months of searching, a new town manager has been hired by the Selma Town Council.
Steven Hicks will assume the position on October 8th, 2019. Hicks was previously the Director of General Services for Durham, NC. Prior to that position, he was Director of Public Works and Utilities for Petersburg, Virginia and Acting Assistant County Manager for James City County, Virginia.
Mr. Hicks has a Master of Science Degree in Urban Systems Engineering from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Urban Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University.
He has over 25 years of State and Local Government Experience.
According to a press release from the Selma town council and Mayor Cheryl Oliver, “His experience in managing large Capital Improvement Projects, updating Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinances, developing City, County, and State Operating Budgets, and overseeing Public Utilities, Transit Systems, Customer Service Billing, and Parks and Recreation have prepared him well to successfully lead our Town of Selma Operations. He considers himself a Public Servant and understands the importance of a town’s operations being responsive to the needs of its citizens and businesses.”
“We are both delighted and proud that he will be joining Team Selma,” officials said in Tuesday’s press release.
Former Selma Town Manager Elton Daniels resigned on February 12, 2019 and accepted a job with the City of Rocky Mount, NC. Daniels had been the manager for 18 months.
