SMITHFIELD – A 22 year-old man led law enforcement officers on a chase along US 70 in Johnston County before being captured, authorities said.
Breon Jahmil Rand of Alonzo Road, Garner is facing multiple charges.
On December 25 around 11:08pm, a Johnston County SAFE team deputy attempted to stop the driver of a 2020 Kia Soul for speeding 75 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on US70 East of Smithfield.
The driver, later identified as Breon Rand, refused to stop. He sped through a convenience store parking lot then back onto US70 traveling westbound.
Deputies pursued the Kia along US70 to Wilson’s Mills where the driver turned onto Wilson’s Mills Road, then jumped and ran in the Family Dollar parking lot.
After a brief foot pursuit, Rand was captured.
Deputies said the Kia, along with a 9mm handgun found in the car, had been reported stolen to Garner Police.
Rand was arrested on numerous charges including fleeing to elude arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, speeding, resisting a public officer, reckless driving, and driving on a revoked license.
Rand was held under a $100,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.
