A vehicle stolen from Smithfield on Wednesday was involved in a chase and crash in Wake County hours later. Interim Smithfield Police Chief R.K. Powell said a resident on North Third Street had started their car to allow it to warm up. When they returned a few minutes later it was gone.
Around midnight, a Wake County deputy attempted to stop the stolen vehicle for speeding on US 401 at Ten Ten Road. The car failed to stop and continued on Ten Ten Road and Fanny Brown Road. As the vehicle turned onto Cinder Bluff Drive, the vehicle struck a home causing damage to a garage door.
Deputies said there were 5 people in the vehicle. Three attempted to flee on foot. Officers caught 1 of the 3 suspects but the driver and front seat passenger got away.
Three of the 5 people in the stolen car were juveniles. They were released to family members. Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact the Wake County Sheriff’s Office at 919-856-6911.
