In what may have been the most closely watched local race on Tuesday’s Primary ballot, Johnston County School Board Chairman Larry Strickland defeated Johnston County Commissioner Chairman Tony Braswell in the Republican primary for NC House District 28.
The race turned negative early on between the candidates. A key point of contention in the race was $20 million the school board returned to Johnston County Commissioners six years earlier.
In the end, Strickland was victorious carrying 50 percent of the votes cast, with an 843 vote win, in unofficial results 5,188 to 4,345 or 42% for Braswell.
Greg Dail finished a distant third with 835 votes or 8 percent.
