Suspect Charged With Firing Gun Into Car Occupied By 6 People

A Clinton man is in custody in connection with a shooting incident last week.  On December 29th, a car occupied by two adults and 4 children was traveling on Bonnestville Road in Sampson County when another car began to pass their vehicle. As the vehicle passed, several shots were fired, leaving bullet holes in their car. Luckily no one inside the car was struck.

The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said the collected evidence and spoke with witnesses to the shooting and were able to arrest 21 year-old Jimmy Rouse of W. Butler Avenue, Clinton who investigators believe is responsible for discharging the firearm during the incident.

On Wednesday, officers located Rouse at the intersection of Railroad Street and South East Boulevard in Clinton and took him into custody without incident.  Rouse was transported to the magistrate’s office and formally charged with six counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and for shooting into an occupied vehicle. He was given a $100,000 secured bond pending a January 13th court appearance.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.  Anyone having additional information concerning this incident is encouraged to contact investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-592-4141.  A motive for the shooting was not disclosed.
