Suspect In Custody Following Attempted Bank Robbery

Benson Police, Johnston County deputies, and first responders are shown on W. Woodall Street following an attempted robbery at Benson’s PNC Bank on Tuesday.

Update 8:00PM: Police said the suspect was wearing a mask when he entered the bank. Shots were fired before police arrived.  The suspect was transported to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

“The Benson Police Department and the Town of Benson are committed to releasing details as soon as possible,” said Benson Police Chief Kenneth Edwards in a prepared statement. “There is no reason to believe the public is in any danger related to this incident.”

BENSON – One person is in custody following an attempted bank robbery. It happened around 4:45pm today (Tuesday) at PNC Bank, located at 400 S. Wall Street.

Benson Police said the incident is currently under investigation and additional details would be released at a later time.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the suspect was shot during the attempted hold up.
