Suspect In Custody Following Standoff At Benson Motel

BENSON – A Cumberland County man is in custody following a 3-1/2 hour standoff with law enforcement officers in southern Johnston County.

Around Noon today (Thursday), the NC SBI located a man wanted on numerous felony warrants from Fayetteville Police inside a room at the Days Inn at 202 N. Honeycutt Street in the Benson city limits. The suspect, Emory Flournoy of Fayetteville, refused to exit the room and barricaded himself inside.  He was also reportedly armed.

Numerous law enforcement officers from the Benson Police Department and Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the motel, including the sheriff’s office STAR tactical team and armored Bearcat vehicle.

A STAR Team negotiator was able to establish telephone contact with Flournoy.  Around 3:30pm, Flournoy surrendered to officers without further incident.

Flournoy was wanted by Fayetteville Police for numerous charges including attempted first degree sex offense, second degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering to terrorize, assault by strangulation, and assault on a female.
