The man previously charged with the armed robberies of two southern Johnston County businesses has now been linked to the robbery of an elderly Benson businessman.
Kenneth Wayne Allred Jr., 42, of Highway 96 South, Dunn, was already in custody for the February 8th robbery of Country Gas and Grocery at 4709 Highway 50 South and the attempted hold up of Parrish Oil Company at 827 South Wall Street that same day.
Benson Police Chief Kenneth Edwards announced Thursday that Allred has been linked to the assault and robbery of Maynard Barnes at Barnes Auto Sales at 604 West Main Street. On January 3rd, Barnes, 87, reported a man struck him and during a struggle for his wallet he was seriously injured. The suspect, identified as Allred, took an undisclosed amount of money from the wallet and fled. Barnes was taken to Wake Medical Center for treatment.
Chief Edwards said Allred has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Desmond Lavar Bass, 30, of Clayton was identified as a co-conspirator in the two February 8th robberies but was not charged with the January 3rd robbery of Mr. Barnes.
