SMITHFIELD – A 52 year-old man was arrested Monday morning after he reportedly broke into a car and stole paper documents, a shirt and book bag. The break-in was reported at 3:55am in the 
800 block of South Sixth Street.
Police responded to a call from the victim who saw someone entering their vehicle. The suspect fled from the scene on foot but was captured a short time later on Midway Street near his residence.
Robert Anthony Smith of Midway Street, Smithfield was charged by Smithfield Police with misdemeanor larceny and felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle.
