A Johnston County man has been linked to the theft of $2,100 in property after he attempted to sell some of the stolen good to the victims company.
On December 1st, commercial kitchen items including two stainless steel sinks were stolen from Wester Auction Company of Smithfield. Two weeks later, a man returned to the same business attempting to sell one of the stolen sinks for $150.
That man was identified as 29 year-old William Heath Roberts of Denning Road, Benson. Roberts was arrested Thursday night by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses.
Deputies said on Friday that Roberts denied taking the items, rather he had received the sink in trade for home improvement work he had performed.
Roberts was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $40,000 bond.
