The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help from the public in identifying a person of interest in an on-going investigation into a Thanksgiving weekend crime.
Around 2:30am on Nov. 25th, the Mar Mac Fire Department responded to a pickup truck fire at a vacant house on Sandhill Road near Dudley. After extinguishing the flames, fire crews determined the blaze was suspicious and notified the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy observed the fire had been set in the driver’s seat of a 2004 Ford Ranger. The deputy made contact with the truck owner near Goldsboro. The owner was unaware her truck had been stolen. While at the scene, the deputy discovered a 2010 Toyota belonging to the same victim had been broken into and several items including her debit card had been stolen.
Officers learned the stolen debit card had been used about 45 minutes prior to the fire being set at a nearby ATM.
Surveillance images from the ATM were released by detectives in hopes someone recognizes the individual.
