Suspects Charged With Trying To Steal Catalytic Converters

ARCHER LODGE – A Johnston County homeowner reportedly caught two people attempting to steal catalytic converters from two vehicles parked at his residence.  Shortly after 11:00am last Thursday, the 78 year-old victim saw the suspects trying to steal catalytic converters from a Honda Accord and Ford Focus at his home on Covered Bridge Road near Archer Lodge.

The suspects fled from the scene before officers arrived. Following an investigation, the suspects were located and arrested Monday morning by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher James Creech, 39, of the 13000 block of Covered Bridge Road, Zebulon and Jennifer Merie Gossett, 30, of the 4400 block of Stevens Chapel Road, Smithfield were charged with attempted larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny. Both offenses are felonies.

Creech was held on a $10,000 secured bond. Gossett was confined on a $7,500 secured bond.

There has been a rash of catalytic converter thefts in Johnston County in recent months.
