Suspicious Vehicle Call Leads To Arrest Of Break-In Suspects

CLAYTON – Two people were arrested on felony breaking and entering charges after Johnston County deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle call.

On November 30 around 1:54am, officers responded to a call about a suspicious U-Haul truck parked behind a home on Medlin Road near Clayton. Officers found two people at the scene, one claiming to be looking for a lost cell phone.

Deputies reportedly discovered a shattered front glass door to the unoccupied dwelling and approximately $1,000 in household items in the process of being stolen.

James Franklin Ashworth Jr., age 41, of Mulberry Road, Four Oaks and Shannon Kelly Northrup, age 41, of Covered Bridge Road, Clayton were arrested at the scene and charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny.

Northrup was also served with an outstanding child support warrant.

Ashworth was given a $25,000 bond. Northrup was held under $10,450 bail.

The truck located at the scene was impounded until it could be returned to U-Haul.

  1. Have you ever noticed that bonds are considerably lower for females that commit the same crime? It’s a shame that our justice system has resorted to giving breaks to someone that has numerous violations (felony) before just because she is a female.

    • They look American and they don’t look like they are on crack. Looks to me like they are just the old-fashioned type of burglars. And I agree with the fact of same bail for anyone, but we also know he has more charges on him then her. The more criminal history the more the bail. What would have been funny is if their house was being burglarized while they were out doing a burglary.
