A family traveling from Virginia to Florida had an unexpected layover in Johnston County this morning (Saturday) after crashing their SUV while exiting off Interstate 95 at Highway 701 near Four Oaks.
The SUV failed to negotiate a sharp curve on the southbound exit ramp at the 90 mile marker, traveled off the ramp, went through the grass, then crossed over the southbound entrance lane before finally stopping in a wooded area. The SUV narrowly missed a large tree.
The SUV was towing a 20 foot boat. The boat separated from the trailer during the accident.
Luckily, all four members of the family escaped without injury.
The State Highway Patrol and Four Oaks Fire Department responded.
