Alexis LeRoy, a second grade teacher at Selma Elementary School, recently received dozens of new books for her classroom through DonorsChoose.org.

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers post classroom project requests on this website where companies and individuals can choose projects to fund.

According to LeRoy, the books she had in her class for students’ choice reading time were very outdated, and she began to notice more and more that the books were not appealing to her students.

“I wanted my students to enjoy reading time, so I went and purchased 50 books from used bookstores,” said LeRoy. “Realizing my budget could not continue these needed purchases I decided to give DonorsChoose.org a shot.”

Through DonorsChoose.org LeRoy’s project, Classroom Library, received $295 to purchase new books for her students.

“I am sincerely thankful for individuals who contribute to help public school teachers whose hearts are often bigger than our wallets,” she said.

LeRoy added that her students are excited about their new classroom books and look forward to their independent reading time when they can choose a book of their own interest.
