The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Smithfield teenager with murder following the fatal shooting of a Selma teen Monday afternoon.
The shooting was reported at 12:53pm at 120 Neuse Bend Road, off Grabtown Road, in the Brogden community east of Smithfield.
Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said when deputies arrived on the scene they found 18 year-old Carlos Mejia Escamilla of 151 River Oaks Drive, Selma dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers took 19 year-old Tony Lee Hines into custody at the scene. Hines lives at 120 Neuse Bend Road. He was charged Monday night with the murder of Escamilla.
Captain Caldwell said no additional details are being released due to the ongoing investigation. Officials would also not comment on a possible motive.
