PINE LEVEL – The State Highway Patrol has released the name of a teenager killed in a hit and run accident near Pine Level. The accident was reported at 1:33am Friday, August 16 in the westbound lanes of US 70 near Steven’s Chapel Road.
Eighteen year-old Omarii Bethea of Four Oaks was reportedly lying in the roadway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that failed to stop.
Moments before the fatal accident, a tanker truck was traveling westbound when a tool flew into the passenger window shattering the glass. The truck driver stopped at a nearby convenience store and notified authorities.
The Highway Patrol said there was no indication the tanker was involved in the pedestrian accident. A review of the video camera on the semi showed Bethea standing beside US 70 when the truck drove by.
Anyone with information on the hit and run accident is encouraged to contact the State Highway Patrol.
Dash cam probably saved the trucker from a charge.
