The NC Highway Patrol has released the name of a motorist who was killed in a single vehicle accident in northeastern Johnston County. The wreck was reported at 6:59pm Friday on Raper Road near Crocker’s Nub Road.
Troopers said a car driven by Joseph Jay Martin, 19, of Selma was traveling southbound on Raper Road when the vehicle ran off the roadway on the left and collided with a ditch. The car then struck a tree and mailbox before coming to rest in the ditch. Martin died at the scene. There were no other occupants in the car.
The Highway Patrol said speed and alcohol played a factor. Troopers also said Martin was not wearing a seat belt.
