Teen Seriously Hurt In Crash

A Johnston County teenager was seriously injured when his car ran off the roadway and overturned against a tree Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the accident on Loop Road near Archer Lodge at 2:52pm.

According to the NC Highway Patrol, 19 year-old Roman Noah Nathaniel Barker of Clayton was traveling eastbound on Loop Road in his 2007 Chevy. Barker ran off the roadway to the right in a curve.  His vehicle struck a trash can and a ditch culvert causing the car to overturn on its drivers side against a tree in the front yard of 1193 Loop Road.
Barker was severely pinned inside the wreckage. Archer Lodge fire crews had to use the jaws of life to free the teen from his car.  After being extricated, Barker was transported by Johnston County EMS to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Trooper C.E. Summerlin estimated Barker was traveling 55mph in a 45mph zone at the time the Chevy ran off Loop Road. The vehicle was a total loss. Photos by John Payne
