An 18-year-old was struck and killed this morning (Thursday) as he walked on Lombard Street / Highway 42 West in the Clayton city limits.
Witnesses say Gustavo Alexis Armenta Valadez, of Park Place, darted across NC 42 from Alta Mobile Home Park just before 7 AM this morning. It was dark and rainy at the time.
He was struck by a vehicle driving out of Downtown Clayton on Lombard Street. Emergency personnel performed CPR on the teen but he died on the scene.
The driver remained on the scene and no charges are anticipated.
Clayton Police are still investigating the fatal crash.
Valadez was a student at Clayton High School and was walking to school when the crash occurred. Johnston County Public Schools have sent grief counselors to Clayton High.
Lombard Street was reopened to traffic around 9:00AM.
