Text Message May Have Led To Assault

A Princeton man is facing felony assault charges after allegedly attacking another man with a blunt object Tuesday morning causing serious injuries. Investigators believe the incident began over a text message that escalated into an argument then a physical confrontation.

Johnston County deputies responded to the scene, in the 2900 block of Progressive Church Road, around 1:00am.

Shane J. Fyfe, 34, was found walking alongside Progressive Church Road near the scene and taken into custody.  Fyfe is accused of striking the 33 year-old victim in the head causing a several laceration.  Deputies also searched a nearby barn Fyfe had allegedly been staying and found a marijuana plant being grown, authorities said.

Fyfe was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and felony manufacturing marijuana.  Bail was set at $75,000.

The victim was transported to Johnston Medical Center for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.
