They Call Him ‘Lucky’

Emaciated, abandoned horse on the mend for a new home

There’s a horse now sitting in quarantine you can call lucky in more ways than one.

Lucky the horse was discovered abandoned recently in an overgrown pasture near Greensboro. Thanks to the kindness and concern of Courtney Angeletti and her mother Misty Lewis of Willow Spring just outside of Angier, Lucky will soon find a permanent place to graze and live out his life the right way.

“The landowner called my daughter and told her about Lucky,” Lewis said. “The man asked her if she wanted the horse because he was going to shoot it.”

Angeletti responded by taking possession of Lucky and began the rehabilitation process for the horse. He was taken to Linwood and placed in a quarantine facility, where he’ll remain until October.

That’s when a homecoming for Lucky will take place at his new home, Angeletti’s farm in Mebane.

The family has established a Facebook fundraiser called “Saving Lucky” to help. As of Thursday, the page had raised nearly half of its $3,000 goal.

“He was checked out by a vet and the vet said he was in pretty bad shape,” Lewis said. “He has not gotten the proper nutrition, his hoofs are overgrown and sore and his teeth [are] so bad he needs his food either watered down or softened for him to chew it.”
